MARTYN'S
DESERT CHALLENGE
CONGRATULATIONS!!
Martyn Sawyer has returned safely
back home after finishing the second
leg of this year’s grueling
four-desert race – The Gobi
March that took place in the remote
mountainous region of Tashkorgan County
on the mainland Gobi Desert route.
The 250km foot race, which took place
on June 17th – 23rd 2007, was
a huge physical challenge. From the
start, competitors were faced with
extreme weather conditions, which
included heavy rainfall, the most
in four decades, snow blizzards at
the top of the mountain pass and extreme
heat during the final stages of the
event.
However, our champion managed to
finished 68th amongst 180 competitors
- not bad at all for someone who just
turned 50! And considering that only
157 competitors actually completed
all the stages of the event out of
the 180 that started, Martyn truly
did us proud, it was a remarkable
achievement.
Even better, we are thrilled to announce
that he’s upped our fund-raising
total for Camp Quality to more than
$700,000!!…. Now that deserves
a huge round of applause from us all!
Next on his agenda will be the Atacama
Crossing in Chile, which he intends
to tackle early next year.
For those who still want to support
Martyn in his quest for adventure
for a good cause – It’s
still not to late to donate, check
out www.martynsdesertchallenge.com
for a sponsorship form or call the
Camp Quality office for donation details.
