Companion Appreciation Dinner

Our annual Companion’s Appreciation Dinner was held at the Craiggengower Cricket Club on Friday 9th February and attended by over 120 companions and medical volunteers.

Many of our companions have contributed significantly to Camp Quality’s success, and many of them have been with us for years, continually exhibiting their time and efforts in support of our campers. Their support represents the reason for the continued positive impact on children with cancer and their families.

Despite the difficulties and challenges our volunteers face in their personal lives, many continue to give their energy, time, love and even their own resources to bring smiles to the children. Their selfless act of kindness has not only helped Camp Quality and also bought forth a message of encouragement and hope to our beneficiaries.

The evening was dedicated to acknowledging some very special volunteers for their hard work and contribution to Camp Quality.

Our companion of the year award is awarded by Camp Quality each year to recognize the voluntary work and support of an exceptional companion who have dedicated their time and efforts to the charity and to his/her camper. This year our Companion of the Year went to Ms. Felix Ng and Ms Amanda Wong.

Camp Quality also wanted to show our appreciation to two of our long-standing companions who have been supportive of us for many years and these two awards went to two of our long-standing companions – Ms Manny Au-Yeung and Mr. Deric Lam.

Camp Quality also give special thanks to one exceptional mom who had been very supportive of our charity and has encouraged many families and their children to join Camp Quality from the Queen Mary hospital. That special person was camper Tze Man’s mom, Mrs Hui for her dedication and her positive message of Camp Quality to the many families at the QM hospital. Special mention was also given to “Lai Sir” from St. John’s Ambulance and his team of St. John’s first aiders who have all been volunteers with Camp Quality for the past 5 years.

Throughout the evening we had 3 delightful but also "unique” auction items as part of our Camp Quality “Welcome the Chinese New Year” fun auction. These were an exclusive signed Rob-B-Hood film poster by Mr. Jackie Chan, Mr. Louis Koo and the director, Mr. Benny Chan with a limited edition copy of the Rob-B-Hood DVD movie. The second item was a Swatch edition” Golden Piggy” watch complete with a gold piggy figurine to bring everyone prosperity, wealth and health for the coming year of the pig. Our final item was a very rare set of HSBC bank notes in small denomination, which were no longer produced by HSBC. The set of HSBC HK$20 bank notes generated the most interest and it was won by one of our dedicated companions, Ms. Helen Chan won the bid with a very generous bid of HK$6800!!!

All three items generated fierce but friendly bidding from everyone in the room and we managed to raised a grand total of HK$12800 which went towards our Camp Quality Parent Support Fund.

The companions were treated to an enjoyable evening with good food and great entertainment. The atmosphere was very casual and relaxed which made it easier for companions to mingle and get to know one another even more!

Finally, Camp Quality would like to sincerely thank all our companion volunteers for their contribution over the years – Happy Lunar New Year!!
