The
Great Outdoors - 2006 Summer Camp
In response to the ever-increasing
demand for summer camp places and
our endeavors to accommodate everyone
who wants to attend camp, Camp Quality
was able to secured the whole site
at the Jockey Club Sai Kung Outdoor
Training Camp, which could house a
total of 236 residential campers.
This year, camp was held on 18th
–20th August with just under
200 campers, companions, and volunteers
attending our biggest ever camp to
date. This wasn’t the first
time, we visited this site, Camp Quality
held an Easter Camp back in 2002 at
this particular campsite. The camp
itself has still kept relatively new
and it’s a favourite with us
because it’s built on a very
scenic setting and has beautiful views
of the water. It also provided us
with the basic essential facilities
to run a successful camp, a great
outdoor pool; huge indoor sports centre,
a theatre and various activity rooms,
which you could hire.

Our set-up team arrived early Friday
to start creating a more “Camp
Quality” feel to the place,
and a great job they did – you
just couldn’t miss out on our
Camp Quality balloons which was everywhere
at site! It wasn’t long before
our group of campers and companions
arrived at camp on the Friday afternoon.
After a short briefing and organizing
everyone into their respective camp
dormitories, it was already suppertime,
which was served sharply at 6.00pm
Following supper, everyone moved
to the Theatre for our special guest
of the evening. Surprise guest, Harry
Wong – everyone’s favourite
magician and someone who has an amazing
way with kids and adults alike. Harry
offered some of our budding magicians
an opportunity to learn about the
simple mysterious of magic by staging
a Magic Workshop. He taught everyone
some simple but very amusing tricks
and everyone was completely mesmerized
by his magic and humour. It was a
thoroughly enjoyable evening and a
great way to end the first night at
camp.

Next morning saw everyone rising
early at 6.00am. After breakfast,
everyone was bused to the Pak Tam
Chung coach park for our highlight
of the camp – the hot air balloon
rides. For our first-timers, you could
see their faces light up in excitement
and hear them say “Wow”!
as they rose into the sky.
After lunch, came our Outdoor Games
program. With collaboration of the
campsite instructors, we had tailor-made
some special adventure based training
programs for our campers. Campers
were encouraged to take on different
challenges to test their abilities
and develop a spirit of teamwork through
activities such as abseiling, Rope-net
course and the Water Cannon Battles!!
For some of the less adventurous ones,
escaping to the pool was the best
option to escape the scorching sun!

Supper for the second evening was
a BBQ. Following the BBQ, everyone
descending to the indoor sports hall
for the Obstacle Course Competition.
Special mention must be given to our
ex-campers (Camp Quality has a Games
Committee which consists of 10 ex-campers
between the ages of 19-21 years old)
for organizing the extremely fun competition,
which got everyone competing excitedly
to win for their particular group.
Sunday Morning started leisurely
with more outdoor activities such
as a round of wit-testing Treasure
Hunt and a firm favourite amongst
all campers – Bamboo Rafting.
You could see how eager some of our
campers were to put their innovative
ideas together so that they could
be on the water as fast as they can!
The less active ones also had various
Arts & Crafts workshops to keep
them selves busy throughout Saturday
and Sunday. One session saw them making
some beautifully hand-made soap.

All good things come to an end, and
before we knew it, after lunch, it
was time to say good-bye to yet another
fun and memorable summer camp.

Till
Next Summer!!
