Companion Deric Lam

I have been a volunteer with Camp Quality for four years. This was a new move for me after spending six years with another voluntary organization. I thought it would only last for a short while initially. But it has already been four years. Maybe it is because of all the lovely children.

I have always believed that children are close to nature. A lot of the fundamental rules of life can be learnt from them. ?at when you are hungry and go to bed when you feel sleepy” – they keep reminding us. Can we really constantly follow such basic rules in our daily life? Who can we blame when these rules are not strictly complied with and we end up ill?

Children suffering from cancer have to put up with their pain without going through this long-term self-torturing stage. Life is full of uncertainties. What can we do about it? Watching them has not only made us realize that a healthy body should not be taken for granted, but also that we should treasure the people and things around us, and treasure love, because they are not to be taken for granted either. We should do everything we can to care and help others if we can. Regardless of whether these sick children will recover, but they will have memories of some of the companion volunteers who have been with them during their long and painful medical care process.

We should work together to build a beautiful world. The ultimate happiness is when people around you are happy. I am so glad to have come to the Camp Quality family. With wonderful staff, voluntary workers and adequate resources, Camp Quality brings smiles and memories to the sick children at a time when they feel most helpless. Camp Quality has also inspired more people to care about society as well as unfortunate people all over the world, with an aim to creating more happiness and hope.

There are so many things in life that should not be taken for granted. When we wake up to see the beautiful sun and the smiling faces around us, we should be grateful.
